2011 TRB 90th Annual Meeting: International Participants' Reception and Sessions

International participants at the TRB 90th Annual Meeting, January 23-27, 2011, in Washington, D.C., are cordially invited to attend TRB's International Participants' Reception on Sunday, January 23, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Washington Hilton Hotel. The reception will allow attendees to meet delegates from the more than 70 countries and will feature the signing of an agreement between TRB and the Joint Transport Research Centre that will create TRID, the TRIS and ITRD Database of transportation research. TRB's 90th Annual Meeting will include some 140 sessions and meetings that will focus on the benefits of international research collaboration, technology transfer, global safety, and international trade or include an international component. Integrating GIS in Emergency Management at Airports

TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop a guidebook for airport operators that outlines the capabilities of geographical information systems (GIS) with respect to emergency management; examines the benefits, costs, and challenges associated with integrating GIS into emergency management for airports and their mutual aid partners; and provides guidance on implementation and use of GIS to support emergency management. Traffic Volume Trends: October 2010

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends, which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the report, travel on all roads and streets increased by 1.9 percent (.49 billion vehicle miles) in October 2010 as compared with October 2009. Travel for the month is estimated to be 259.5 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for 2010 is up by 0.6 percent (16 billion vehicle miles). The cumulative estimate for the year is 2,514.1 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More] ShareThis 


Value Pricing Pilot Program Quarterly Report: July-September 2010


The U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Office of Operations has released its quarterly report on the Value Pricing Pilot Program, which was authorized by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users. Value pricing encompasses a variety of strategies to manage congestion on highways, including tolling of highway facilities, as well as other strategies that do not involve tolls, such as mileage-based charges for insurance, taxes, leasing fees, and car sharing.
