TRB Webinar: Expedited Planning and Environmental Review of Highway Projects

 

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on May 4, 2011, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EDT that will explore effective tools and techniques for practitioners and decision makers to expedite the planning and environmental review of transportation projects.  Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

HCM2010 Webinar Series: New Signalized Intersection Methodology

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on May 17, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine updates to the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) new method for modeling modern, fully actuated, dual ring control intersections. The webinar will explore the model's estimates of actuated phase duration, improved control delay algorithms, and improved queue estimates.  Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

HCM2010 Webinar Series: Multi-Modal Urban Streets Methodology-Auto Mode

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on May 19, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine application of the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) new multimodal urban streets method as it relates to the auto mode by exploring the HCM2010's improved methods for estimating average travel speed. The webinar will expand on information provided during a April 28, 2011, webinar that focused on the pedestrian, bicycle, and transit mode portion of this method.  Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

TRB is sponsoring a conference on Emerging Issues in Safe and Sustainable Mobility for Older People on August 30-September 1, 2011, in Washington, D.C. The conference will focus on emerging issues, research implementation, and programs related to safe and sustainable methods to enhance the mobility of older people. Individuals or groups wishing to present at the meeting must submit an abstract by May 12, 2011.

Safety Issues and Safety Actions Identified Through ATSB Transport Safety Investigations: 2009-2010 Financial Year

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has released a report that documents and analyzes 124 safety issues identified by the ATSB in the aviation, rail, and marine industries, and the 141 safety actions that were taken to address these safety issues.
