PARKING EDITION, June 2011
Dear omss,

National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) has become a key topic in all of the different facets of the transportation industry. People are asking questions and seeking out knowledge, starting with, what is it? Then, why is it important and how will it help my business?

NTCIP is the key to integrating various types of parking equipment from different manufacturers into a cohesive parking system. Such a system can even be integrated into regional transportation systems through seamless communication between products regardless of the manufacturer.

This month we're going to take a deeper look at the topic, providing better insight into one of the most prominent topics in the industry, helping you understand why it's something to be considered and how it will help you.
NTCIP: What is it?
NTCIP Defined

In 1992, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) initiated the development of NTCIP, resulting from the need for a standard communications protocol.

The industry classifies it as the family of standards that defines the protocols and data definitions necessary for communication between different equipment manufacturers.

NTCIP: Why it's important?
The Benefits That Will Help Your Business

We're all hearing that NTCIP compliance is an integral part of helping the industry move forward, but why? Here are some of the benefits associated with NTCIP standards.

Expand Business Beyond Your Structure

NTCIP permits communication and the exchange of information with different agencies, such as other parking structures, surrounding infrastructures, and neighboring transportation providers, greatly increasing business opportunities.

Interact With More Parking Products

NTCIP's open-architecture allows your product or structure to communicate information to citywide wayfinding signs and use them to navigate drivers to your structure.

Uncover Parking Funding Opportunities

Utilizing NTCIP compliant products can help projects qualify and secure federal funding. The initiative to help products migrate over to NTCIP is supported by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Foster Healthy Competition

NTCIP allows the integration of different products that meet the same standards, greatly increasing the number of possible product suppliers, promoting market opportunities, and making your product offering more viable.

These benefits will help your business reduce spending, increase revenue, boost satisfaction, and help present new business prospects.
