CNN Breaking News

Britain's embattled News of the World, the world's top-selling English-language newspaper, will shut down after Sunday's edition. The scandal-hit tabloid, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., has been at the center of phone hacking charges.

Victims of the alleged phone hacking, where reporters are said to have obtained PIN numbers and listened to voicemails, include a teenage murder victim, celebrities, royalty and at least one man killed in the 2005 London bombing.

Murdoch has condemned the allegations against News of the World as "deplorable and unacceptable." Murdoch's media empire extends to the U.S. to include Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.

Casey Anthony will be released Wednesday from jail. Earlier today, she was sentenced to four years for four counts of lying to investigators, all misdemeanor charges. She has been in jail for almost three years and is being given time off for good behavior.

The 25-year-old Orlando woman avoided the most serious charges when a jury acquitted her Tuesday of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter in the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee.

National Geographic Traveler and Fotopedia present Dreams of Burma
Welcome to a photographic partnership between National Geographic Traveler and Fotopedia that showcases one of the world's most alluring travel destinations: Burma, if you are a traditionalist, or Myanmar, if you adhere to what the country's current rulers call it.

By any name, it is, as these photos reveal, a wonder of the world. In a recent piece in National Geographic Traveler on Burma, writer Donovan Webster, who has visited the country many times, wrote: "Once you've been, you can't get Burma out of your mind. 'How soon can I go back?' you keep asking yourself.
I lament that Burma has been lost to many in the travel world. But now that opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been released by the country's military dictatorship, more travelers may aspire to visit this magical place. Personally, I'd go back tomorrow, if only to support the populace with my tourist dollars. To me, Burma—Myanmar, officially—is among the world's most beguiling destinations, the kind of a country, that after you've been, inhabits your dreams."

Yes. All true. See for yourself.

CNN Breaking News

Judge Belvin Perry has sentenced Casey Anthony to one year in jail to run consecutively for each of four counts of lying to police.

The judge said it will take about an hour of discussion with the defense to figure out how much of the two-plus-years she has already served will go toward the sentence. The court will also consider time off for good behavior. For now, she remains in jail but could be out within weeks, according to analysts.

The 25-year-old Orlando woman avoided the most serious charges when a jury acquitted her of first degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter in the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee.

Perry also said he would fine Anthony $1,000 for each count and he'll calculate the cost of the investigation into Caylee's disappearance and what amount of that Casey might have to pay.

Team Australia's cattle concessions

Team Australia's cattle concessions
One month ago today, Australian cattle exporters woke up to a partial ban on live exports to Indonesia. As of last night, that's where we are again. And all of the concessions made during the process, as far as I can see, have been made by Australian industry and officials rather than by their Indonesian counterparts.

The biggest skeleton in the News International cupboard
Rupert Murdoch's News International empire in London is in crisis. It's embroiled in an ethical and legal morass, cooperating with a police investigation, 'welcoming' the government's intention to commission a public inquiry while desperately trying to stave off an advertising boycott and keeping alive a takeover bid for the broadcasting cash cow BSkyB. This week, NOTW really is the News of The World.
