TRB Webinar: 2012 TRB 91st Annual Meeting - How to Survive and Thrive

On October 20, 2011, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT, TRB will hold a webinar designed to help both new and returning Annual Meeting attendees get the most out of their meeting experience. The webinar will review issues related to personal planning for the meeting, including hotel reservations, airline reservations, and other basics; help attendees plan their schedules during the meeting; and explore ways attendees can optimize their Annual Meeting networking after they return home. TRB Webinar: Wildlife vs. Aviation: Repelling and Deterring Techniques on October 24, 2011

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on October 24, 2011, from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. EDT that will feature research developed by TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) related to issues and techniques for repelling and deterring wildlife at airports, as covered in ACRP Synthesis 23: Bird Harassment, Repellent, and Deterrent Techniques for Use on and Near Airports and in ACRP Report 32: Guidebook for Addressing Aircraft/Wildlife Hazards at General Aviation Airports. Participants must register in advance of the webinar and there is no fee to register. Professional Development Hour (PDH) certificates will not be provided for this webinar. [More]


4th Urban Street Symposium*

TRB is cosponsoring the 4th Urban Street Symposium on June 24-27, 2012, in Chicago, Illinois. The symposium is designed to explore improvements in suburban and urban street design practices, foster discussions on alternative street design practices, examine alternative street designs, and facilitate the transfer of urban street research findings to state agencies and to local governments. Individuals or groups wishing to make presentation at the meeting must submit an abstract by October 31, 2011.

Work Zone Crash Characteristics and Countermeasure Guidance

TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop comprehensive guidance on the characteristics of work zone crashes and the effectiveness of countermeasures in various categories to reduce work zone crash frequency and severity, and improve overall work zone safety. Proposals are due November 28, 2011. [More]

2009 Traffic Safety Facts: Large Trucks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a traffic safety factsheet that explores fatalities in crashes involving large trucks during 2009. [More]
Fatality Analysis Reporting System General Estimates System: 2009 Data Summary

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a summary booklet that provides a pocket-sized excerpt of the Traffic Safety Facts Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS)/General Estimates System (GES) Annual Report. The tables included in the booklet are a summary of the most asked-for data available from FARS and GES. [More]
Proceedings of the Marine Safety and Security Council, the Coast Guard Journal of Safety at Sea: Fall 2011

The U.S. Coast Guard has released the latest issue of this quarterly journal, which is described as the voice of the Coast Guard's Marine Safety and Security Council. This issue has a focus on leveraging tools, technology, and teamwork to imporve response, save lives. [More]

Passenger Boarding (Enplanement) and All-Cargo Data for U.S. Airports: 2010

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has released passenger (enplanement) and cargo data for calendar year 2010. The data are extracted from the Air Carrier Activity Information System (ACAIS), a database that contains revenue passenger boarding and all-cargo data. [More]


2009 Traffic Safety Facts: A Compilation of Motor Vehicle Crash Data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System and the General Estimates System

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released the final version of its 2009 traffic safety facts report, which presents descriptive statistics about traffic crashes of all severities, from those that result in property damage to those that result in the loss of human life.
