Losing faith in our pillars of stability One year ago, the argument in Canberra was about who could take the credit for the stability of our banking sector, which was generally appraised to have assisted our collective evasion of the GFC's worst depredations. But how swiftly that jubilant spirit has evaporated, now that it occurs to us that the downside of the otherwise excellent "stability" concept is a lack of competitiveness. All of a sudden, all we can focus on is what annoys us most about our banking structure. The holes in the Krispy Kreme strategy Krispy Kreme failed to understand that in this country they needed to operate as a specialty retailer. It led to their downfall. The Australian and the Yuendumu refugees I'm not alone in my concerns about what, for me, represents a new nadir in reporting by The Australian. The yearn for the urn on foreign soil Everything appears to be on track for the English cricket team to win their first Ashes series in Australia since 1986. The ruthless reload, the media pass the ammo Two years ago, when they lost the presidency, the Republicans had been in the White House for 28 of the previous 40 years. Now, the mood is decidedly uglier. The calls from the Tea Party for todayÂ's Â"American patriotsÂ" to Â"take backÂ" their country have captured support among conservative Republicans, giving a new edge to the battle between the two major parties. But Rupert MurdochÂ's Fox News has become a force within Republican politics, making the task of moderates in the party much more difficult.
