The key is consistency, Labor is lacking

The key is consistency, Labor is lacking
Political advocacy is about believing something, and setting out to bring a majority around to your point of view. In the best political advocates, principle and determination work together to the extent that even voters who fundamentally disagree with their position on a particular policy stance will grudgingly support them anyway. Federal Labor is a long way from that right now, thanks to the messages it has sent out to the electorate on a number of issues.

Public media: get sharp or get knifed
Wake up, public media people! You have no magic exemption from the requirements of political maturity. There are people out there who seek your destruction, and they are not evenly distributed.

How television works: a heart-warming story for all the family
There are reports the BBC is about to broadcast a program bearing marked conceptual similarities to The Games, a show we created in 1998.

The political truth is in the advertising
A wise strategist once advised, counterintuitively, that if you want to know the truth about what political parties really think you should watch their ads. His logic was simple, "because we spend a fortune researching and making them". Political advertising tells you exactly where a party sees advantage and how it intends to press it. So in the lead-up to the New South Wales state elections, what do we see?

Japan Earthquake Strikes: Full Coverage

Japan Earthquake Strikes: Full CoverageA 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan today at 12:46am EST, the largest ever suffered by Japan and among the world's Top 10. Thousands of videos are pouring in, as the country stands still in the middle of disaster.

Here's a summary of all that is happening, from a round of home videos updating in real time to the emergency nuclear shutdown, going through giant whirlpools and a giant wave of mud and flames taking over fields and towns in the northeast coast. And no, the supermoon really didn't cause this. New Scientist has a good article on the causes and effects of the Japan earthquake. There's also footage of the high rises in Tokyo swaying during the quake.
