HCM2010 Webinar Series: New Signalized Intersection Methodology

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on May 17, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine updates to the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) new method for modeling modern, fully actuated, dual ring control intersections. The webinar will explore the model's estimates of actuated phase duration, improved control delay algorithms, and improved queue estimates.  Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. HCM2010 Webinar Series: Multi-Modal Urban Streets Methodology-Auto Mode

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on May 19, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine application of the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) new multimodal urban streets method as it relates to the auto mode by exploring the HCM2010's improved methods for estimating average travel speed. The webinar will expand on information provided during a April 28, 2011, webinar that focused on the pedestrian, bicycle, and transit mode portion of this method.  Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. 20th Biennial Visibility Symposium

TRB is sponsoring the 20th Biennial visibility Symposiumon August 1-2, 2011, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The symposium will explorecontemporary research on issues related to the visual communication of information within the general transportation infrastructure. Topic areas expected to be addressed during the symposium include light-emitting diodes/adaptive street/road lighting, sign and pavement marking retroreflectivity, visual modeling and driver performance, visibility during adverse weather, and the impacts of intelligent transportation systems on visibility requirements. Sixth SHRP 2 Safety Research Symposium

The second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2), which is managed by the Transportation Research Board, will be holding its annual Safety Research Symposium on July 14-15, 2011, in Washington, D.C. The symposium is designed to provide updates on progress on SHRP 2 safety projects to current and potential contractors and interested members of the public. Topics that will be addressed include SHRP 2's naturalistic driving study and roadway database, data access and management, and upcoming SHRP 2 safety requests for proposals. Next Generation of Rural Roads Crash Prediction Models Pilot Study

The New Zealand Transport Agency has released a report that explores develop of preliminary crash prediction models for two-lane rural roads, using generalized linear regression model techniques. Development of the model involved the collection of road alignment, roadside environment, traffic flow, and crash data for 200 sections of rural road, each one 400m long, throughout the Waikato region of New Zealand. Saving Lives, Saving Money

The European Road Assessment Programme has released a report that proposes 'economically rational' levels of safety that could be achieved for Britain's main road network. The report also examines the price of road crashes to the British economy and where those consequences fall; reviews how road and transport schemes are evaluated and the rates of return that are expected and achieved; and highlights the network of roads in each English region, Scotland, and Wales on which crashs are concentrated.
