If you will require a visa to enter the United States to attend the TRB 90th Annual Meeting, January 23-27, 2011, in Washington, D.C., begin planning for the application process now. Even if you didn't need a visa for a previous Annual Meeting, you are encouraged to double-check the current requirements . In addition, U.S. regulations now require security checks for most visitor visas, resulting in a process that may take more than three months. Citizens of certain countries must have an invitation in hand before they can obtain a passport from their government, and then apply for a U.S. entry visa. TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 600C, Human Factors Guidelines for Road Systems, Collection C--including Chapters 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22 (Tutorials 4, 5, 6), 23 (Updated), 24, 25, 26 (Updated)--explores human factors principles and findings for consideration by highway designers and traffic engineers. The report is designed to help the nonexpert in human factors to consider more effectively the roadway user's capabilities and limitations in the design and operation of highway facilities. NCHRP Report 600A (Chapters 1 through 5, 10, 11, 13, 22 [Tutorials 1 and 2], 23, and 26); and NCHRP Report 600B (Chapters 6, 22 [Tutorial 3], and 23 [Updated]) are available online. | | | | Traffic Volume Trends: May 2010 The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends, which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the report, travel on all roads and streets increased by 0.1 percent (0.3 billion vehicle miles) in May 2010 as compared with May 2009. Travel for the month is estimated to be 260.6 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for 2010 was down by 0.1 percent (-1.6 billion vehicle miles). The cumulative estimate for the year is 1,206.2 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More]
