TRB Webinar: Predicting Travel-Time Reliability: Methods and Implications for Practice

TRB will conduct a web briefing or "webinar" on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EDT that will explore research and practical methods that can be used in predicting highway travel time.  Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. 12th National Conference on Transportation Planning for Small and Medium-Sized Communities: Tools of the Trade

TRB is sponsoring the 12th National Conference on Transportation Planning for Small and Medium-Sized Communities: Tools of the Trade on September 22-24, 2010, in Williamsburg, Virginia. The conference will explore information on the factors relating to the planning, development, programming, and implementation of multi-modal transportation facilities for small and medium-sized communities. The symposium examined the status of research on or related to the transmission of disease on aircraft and in airports, and the potential application of research results to the development of protocols and standards for managing communicable disease incidents in an aviation setting. Review of States Receives of Federal Funding for Highways

The U.S. Government Accountability Office has released a report that examines for federal fiscal years 2005 through 2009 how contributions to the Highway Trust Fund compared with the funding states received and what provisions were used to address rate-of-return issues across states. The U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Office of International Programs has released a summary report on a scanning study of Europe that focused on identifying best practices and processes designed to help assure bridge safety and serviceability. Value Pricing Pilot Program Quarterly Report: January - March 2010

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Office of Operations has released its quarterly report on the Value Pricing Pilot Program, which was authorized by the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users. Value pricing encompasses a variety of strategies to manage congestion on highways, including tolling of highway facilities, as well as other strategies that do not involve tolls, such as mileage-based charges for insurance, taxes, leasing fees, and car sharing. Review of FAA Challenges Related to Winter Weather Operations

The U.S. Government Accountability Office has released a report that explores the extent to which commercial airplanes have experienced accidents and incidents related to icing, and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) inspection and enforcement activities related to icing. The report also examines the efforts of FAA and others to improve safety in winter weather, and the challenges that continue to affect aviation safety in winter weather. As a supplement to the report, the GAO has released  a list of icing and winter weather-related recommendations that the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board has issued since 1996.
