MINNEAPOLIS TO CLOSE SEVERAL STREETS NEAR THE METRODOME AS A SECURITY MEASURE FOR THURSDAY, SEPT. 2 VIKINGS GAME
The City of Minneapolis will close several streets around the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome as a security measure for the Minnesota Vikings game Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.
Beginning at 5 p.m. Sept. 2, the City will close the following streets:
· Fifth Street, from 11th Avenue to Park Avenue
· Chicago Avenue, from Third Street to Sixth Street
· Fourth Street, from Park Avenue to I-35W
· Norm McGrew Place, from Third Street to Fourth Street
These roads will reopen about an hour after the completion of the Vikings game (about 11 p.m.)
Please note that the first concurrent Twins and Vikings games will bring big crowds to downtown Minneapolis the evening of Thursday, Sept. 2. As many as 100,000 people could fill Target Field and Mall of America Field at the H.H.H. Metrodome, so it’s important that folks plan ahead and explore their transportation options. The City of Minneapolis, Metro Transit, the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings, and many other partners are working together to mitigate traffic congestion as much as possible and to spread the word to people who are coming Downtown the evening of Sept. 2 so they can plan ahead.
