September 29, 2010 (Baltimore, MD)The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) heard you. After reviewing comments received during the initial public review period that ended on September 14, the BRTB voted to release revised goals and strategies for Plan It 2035, the next long-range transportation plan. The revised version of the draft goals and strategies, which may be viewed at www.baltometro.org/transportation-planning/goals-for-plan-it-2035, is open for public review and comment through Friday, October 8.

Plan It 2035 will outline how to best allocate funding to meet the region's transportation needs and challenges over the next 25 years. Federal law requires that each metropolitan area's long-range transportation plan be updated every 4 years. Three years have passed since the latest plan - Transportation Outlook 2035 - was approved.

One of the first steps the BRTB is took in updating the plan was to develop goals for Plan It 2035 and release them for public review. The initial draft goals were:

1. Improve Transportation System Safety
2. Preserve the Existing Infrastructure
3. Improve Accessibility
4. Increase Mobility
5. Preserve the Environment
6. Improve Transportation System Security
7. Promote Prosperity and Economic Opportunity
8. Foster Inter-jurisdictional Participation and Cooperation

Goal 8 was revised to read "Foster Participation and Cooperation among All Stakeholder Groups."

The revised strategies include:

  • Improved ability to respond to/recover from emergencies
  • Increased redundancy in our transportation network
  • Improvements to encourage walking and bicycling, and enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Support for sustainable communities
  • More collaboration among government entities, businesses, transportation service providers, advocacy groups, community groups and private organizations

The public is invited to review and comment on the revised draft goals and strategies for Plan It 2035 in writing. Comments may be submitted to:
