Map of SHRP 2 Activities

TRB's Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) has released a map that highlights the 22 states that are participating in some 30 SHRP 2 activities. The varied activities include the naturalistic driving study, pilot tests, field tests, focus groups, and demonstration projects.

TRB Webinar: Improved Practices for Design and Construction of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements (CRCP) - Part 2: Construction

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on June 1, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. EDT that will explore construction requirements and improved practices to construct continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP).  Participants must register at least 3 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

TRB Webinar: Moisture Impacts on Pavement Performance

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on June 29, 2011, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EDT that will explore the impacts of moisture on in-service pavements including the sources of moisture intrusion and potential effects on pavement performance.  Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

HCM2010 Webinar Series: Enhancements to the Freeway Facilities Method

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on July 19, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine enhancements to the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) freeway facilities method and its implementation by the FREEVAL computational engine, which is included as part of Volume 4 of HCM2010. The webinar will explore the capabilities of the freeway facilities method and demonstrate uses of the FREEVAL computational engine. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

HCM2010 Webinar Series: Enhanced Planning Methods and Applications of Generalized Service Volume Tables

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on July 21, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT, which is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), that will examine enhancements to the Highway Capacity Manual 2010 (HCM2010) that can be applied to planning and preliminary engineering applications. A major focus of the webinar will be a demonstration of the new generalized service volume tables that are designed to allow for quick estimates of level of service for freeways, multi-lane highways, and urban streets.  Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees.

NCHRP FY 2012 Projects: Oversight Panel Nominee Solicitation

TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) is soliciting nominees to serve on oversight panels for new projects being established under the NCHRP's FY 2012 program. Nominees should have expertise directly relevant to the proposed project topic. To help identify nominees who are members of historically underrepresented groups, TRB encourages the nomination of women and members of minority groups.  Nominations are due by June 3, 2011.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Hazmat Transportation Training

TRB's Hazardous Materials Cooperative Research Program (HMCRP) has issued a request for proposals to develop a guide that describes methodologies, metrics, and best practices used to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and instructional methods used to impart hazardous materials transportation safety and security regulatory requirements to public- and private-sector hazmat employees. Proposals are due July 12, 2011.
