Webinar: Signals for Blind Pedestrians - Overview of Current Issues and Available Training

TRB will co-sponsor a web briefing or "webinar" on July 20, 2011, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EDT that will present information about a National Cooperative Highway Research Program project on Accessible Pedestrian Signals workshops. The webinar is free for all attendees; however, participants must register with Easter Seals Project ACTION by July 15, 2011 and space is limited.

3rd International Conference on Communications-Based Train Control and Train Efficiency

TRB is cosponsoring the 3rd International Conference on Communications-Based Train Control and Train Efficiency on April 30-May 1, 2012, in Denver, Colorado, followed by an optional tour of the Transportation Test Center in Pueblo on May 2. The conference will address communications-based train control systems, communication standards, interoperability, and interfaces with related train efficiency systems being deployed in the United States, Europe, and elsewhere.

Traffic Volume Trends: March 2011

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends, which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the report, travel on all roads and streets decreased by 1.4 percent (-3.5 billion vehicle miles) in March 2011 as compared with March 2010. Travel for the month is estimated to be 250.4 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for 2011 is down by 0.1 percent (-0.8 billion vehicle miles). The cumulative estimate for the year is 688.9 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More] ShareThis

The U.K. Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has released the latest issue of its monthly electronic newsletter that provides information on current projects as well as access to completed research. RSSB manages a program of research and development on behalf of government and the railway industry. The program is funded by the Department for Transport and is designed to assist the industry and its stakeholders in improving performance (in terms of health and safety, reliability, and punctuality), increasing capacity and availability, reducing cost, and delivering a sustainable future for the railway.
