Sharon D. Banks Award for Humanitarian Leadership in Transportation

The Transportation Research Board is seeking nominations for the Sharon D. Banks Award for Humanitarian Leadership in Transportation . This TRB award, which recognizes excellence in people-oriented initiatives throughout transportation, was inaugurated in 2002 and may be presented biennially. The next presentation of the award will be made during the Chairman's Luncheon on January 25, 2012, during the TRB 91st Annual Meeting.  Nominations must be submitted no later than August 31, 2011.

2012 TRB 91st Annual Meeting: Now Accepting Associated Groups' Function Space Requests

TRB is taking requests for function space from non-profit organizations and government agencies that would like to hold meetings in conjunction with the TRB 91st Annual Meeting January 22-26, 2012, in Washington, DC. Qualifying organizations wishing to hold meetings, and food and beverage events at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park, Omni Shoreham, and Washington Hilton hotels must agree to follow the  TRB Request for Function Space Guidelines and complete the online Request for Function Space Form. Only requests submitted via this form will be accepted and the priority processing deadline for forms is October 7, 2011.

TRB Webinar: Principles and Practices of Quieter Pavements

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on August 24, 2011, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. EDT that will explore principles and practices of designing and constructing quieter pavements.  Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. Professional Development Hour (PDH) certificates will be provided for this webinar.

TRB Webinar: Railroad - DOT Institutional Mitigation Strategies

TRB, in partnership with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), will conduct a web seminar or "webinar" on August 31, 2011, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM EDT on a project developed by TRB's second Strategic Highway Program (SHRP 2) that explores the report, Strategies for Improving the Project Agreement Process between Highway Agencies and Railroads . Participants must register in advance of the webinar, and there is no fee for registrants.  The webinar has a Professional Development Hour (PDH) value of 1. Equity of Evolving Transportation Finance Mechanisms

TRB Special Report 303: Equity of Evolving Transportation Finance Mechanisms addresses the equity of alternatives to current transportation finance mechanisms, notably mechanisms based on tolling and road use metering (i.e., road pricing). The committee that developed the report concluded that broad generalizations about the fairness of high-occupancy toll lanes, cordon tolls, and other evolving mechanisms oversimplify the reality and are misleading. The fairness of a given type of finance mechanism depends on how it is structured, what transportation alternatives are offered to users, and which aspects of equity are deemed most important.
