2011 TRB 90th Annual Meeting: Future Directions in Transportation: A Multi-Modal Dialogue with the U.S. DOT Deputy Administrators

2011 TRB 90th Annual Meeting: Surface Transportation Authorization: A Discussion with the U.S. Department of Transportation Leadership

Plan to attend a discussion by the administrators of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT's) component agencies on Tuesday, January 25, in Session 573 from 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, as part of the TRB 90th Annual Meeting, January 23-27, 2011, in Washington, D.C. Polly Trottenberg, Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, will serve as the moderator for what promises to be an interesting and informative discussion with the Department's leadership. The DOT's leadership team will discuss the future direction of national surface transportation programs and policies, as well as offer their thoughts on the shaping of the next surface transportation authorization bill. TRB Webinar: Quality-Related Specification Software (QRSS): A Performance-Based Specification for Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavement Construction

TRB will be conducting a web briefing or "webinar" on December 15, 2010, from 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. EST that will explore the use of Quality-Related Specification Software (QRSS), a performance-related specification for hot-mix asphalt (HMA) pavement construction. Participants must register at least 24 hours prior to the start of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. Analysis of SHRP 2 Naturalistic Driving Study Data

TRB's second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) has issued a request for proposals to carry out the analysis of the data being collected in the SHRP 2's Naturalistic Driving Study that will lead to real-world applications and safety benefits. Bidders must develop one or more specific analytic approaches within four priority areas, including roadway departure; intersection crashes; driver characteristics, behavior, and performance; and driver interaction with advanced vehicle technology. Strategies to Increase Seat Belt Use: An Analysis of Levels of Fines and the Type of Law

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released a report that explores the types of seat belt law enforcement--primary versus secondary- and the levels of fines levied in the states as a result of enforcement to determine if a correlation exists between these factors and seat belt use rates.

Traffic Volume Trends: September 2010

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends, which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the report, travel on all roads and streets increased by 1.5 percent (3.7 billion vehicle miles) in September 2010 as compared with September 2009. Travel for the month is estimated to be 247.8 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for 2010 is up by 0.5 percent (11.1 billion vehicle miles). The cumulative estimate for the year is 2,254.5 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More] ShareThis

Reducing Congestion and Funding Transportation Using Road Pricing in Europe and Singapore

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration's International Programs Office has released a report that explores new ideas and practical, workable models for integrating road pricing approaches into state, local, and regional policies, programs, and practices. The report is based on the findings of an international scan of Sweden, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands in December 2009. [More] ShareThis

The U.S. Census Bureau has released its annual update of the North American Transportation Statistics (NATS) database. The database includes information on transportation and transportation-related activities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, both within individual countries and between the countries. Washington State DOT Annual Congestion Report: 2010

The Washington State Department of Transportation has released the latest version of its annual congestion report that examines traffic data to analyze the results of its Moving Washington program.
