Annual Meeting Online Portal: Institutional Access Subscriptions Now Available

Academic and nonacademic, public or private institutions may now purchase access to the 2011 TRB 90th Annual Meeting (AMOnline) portal, which includes slides and posters of the more than 3,500 program presentations, videos of more than 40 high-profile sessions, and the 2,200 papers that make up the meeting's Compendium of Papers.  Institutional subscription packages allow authorized users at the subscribing institution to view TRB AMonline content at their work site.

2011 International Visualization in Transportation Symposium

TRB is sponsoring 2011 International Visualization in Transportation Symposium on August 20-23, 2011, in Chicago, Illinois. The symposium is designed to highlight improving technologies and methods, feature case studies or successful practices, and illuminate the expanding role of visualization in transportation planning, design, construction, maintenance, and data management and analysis.  Individuals or groups wishing to present at the symposium must submit an abstract by April 1, 2011.

HCM2010 Webinar Series: Highway Capacity Manual 2010 Overview: Now in Four Volumes

TRB is cosponsoring a webinar on April 12, 2011, from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m. EDT that is being conducted by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), which will provide an overview of the Highway Capacity Manual 2010's (HCM2010's) four volumes. The session will explore the organization and structure of HCM2010, highlight new methods included in the manual, and examine new resources and supplemental material that will be available in the Volume 4, online portion of the HCM2010. Participants must register in advance of the webinar, space is limited, and there is a fee for non-TRB Sponsor employees. Report Facilitators Needed for International Scan Program

The International Scan Program is seeking individuals interested in serving as report facilitators for one or more upcoming scans. The scan program is sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program. Each of the four potential scans planned will cover one of the following topics: adapting design and construction to climate change, alternative revenue options, multi-modal transportation on major highway bridges, and law and fire integration in traffic incident management.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has launched a website designed to be a centralized secure repository for transportation data that may not have been able to be shared in the past because it included personal information. The U.S. Federal Highway Administration's Office of Operations has released the latest version of its guidebook that includes information on and points of contact for experts on current best practices for improving work zone safety and mobility. [More] ShareThis


Traffic Volume Trends: January 2011

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration has released the latest issue of Traffic Volume Trends, which is a monthly report based on hourly traffic count data reported by the states. According to the report, travel on all roads and streets increased by 0.2 percent (0.5 billion vehicle miles) in January 2011 as compared with January 2010. Travel for the month is estimated to be 223.5 billion vehicle miles. Cumulative travel for 2011 is up by 0.2 percent (0.5 billion vehicle miles). The cumulative estimate for the year is 223.5 billion vehicle miles of travel. [More] ShareThis

2010 Traffic Data for U.S Airlines and Foreign Airlines U.S. Flights

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has released preliminary data that indicate that 786.7 million scheduled passengers traveled on U.S. airlines and on foreign airlines serving the United States in 2010. According to BTS, this is a 2.1 percent increase from 2009; however, the 2010 passenger total still remained 3.2 percent below the level of 812.3 million in 2008. [More] ShareThis
