CNN Breaking News

The Basque separatist group ETA said today it will end its decades-long, bloody campaign for a Basque homeland in a portion of Spain and France. The ETA announcement was published on the website of Gara, a newspaper that the group has used to convey messages in the past.

ETA, listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union, Spain and the United States, is blamed for more than 800 deaths in its long fight for an independent Basque homeland to be carved out of a section of northern Spain and southwestern France.

The group had announced a unilateral "permanent" cease-fire last January, raising hopes in Spain that an end might be near to the decades of ETA car bombings and point-blank shootings.

New video shows revolutionary fighters with Moammar Gadhafi before his death in his hometown of Sirte today. Gadhafi died soon afterward, although the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear.

President Obama is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. ET today on the death of the former Libyan strongman.

Gadhafi ruled Libya for more than four decades before being ousted in a revolution earlier this year that was part of the "Arab Spring" unrest.

Libyan fighters say they have entered the last area held by Gadhafi loyalists in his hometown of Sirte.

National Transitional Council fighters say they are still battling pockets of resistance in one part of Sirte.

The council has said it will officially declare Libya liberated when Sirte falls.

NTC fighters toppled Gadhafi's nearly 42-year-old government in August after six months of battles. Gadhafi's location remains unknown.

Aboriginality: an identity draped in heritage

Identity is a personal choice. Indeed, it's the most personal of all choices.

But when it comes to identifying as an Indigenous Australian, you either are, or you aren't.

This notion deeply offends people like Andrew Bolt because they believe someone is getting something to which they themselves are not entitled.

They need to get over it.
