| | COMMENTS WELCOME ON TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS | | Federal Funding Helps Move Many Local Projects Forward | | 
The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board is currently welcoming public feedback on several proposed projects related to the 2011 - 2014 Transportation Improvement Program. A summary of the projects are below, with full details available by clicking on the links provided.  Bridges for the future: $7.9 Million Amendment
Baltimore and Carroll Counties have submitted a request to amend the 2011-2014 Transportation Improvement Program for $7.9 million worth of projects related to improving or repairing nine local bridges. The comment period is open through Monday, April 11, 2011. >> Find out more about these bridges Moving Howard County Forward Howard County is requesting an amendment to add $9.7 million toward projects related to improving or repairing six local bridges. In addition, an amendment has also been requested to reflect a recent grant award of $3.8 million in FFY 2010 Transit Investment for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) II Discretionary Grant money for the Howard County Electric Bus Project. >> Learn more about Moving Howard County Forward Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel Study The Maryland Department of Transportation has submitted a request to include $56 million in funding for the Baltimore and Potomac (B&P) Tunnel. The B&P Tunel opened in 1873 and currently transports passengers via Amtrak and MARC trains, as well as freight traffic. Maryland was recently awarded a grant for Preliminary Engineering and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis for a new tunnel alignment to replace the existing B&P Tunnel, which is nearing the end of its useful life. >> Get details about the B&P Tunnel study |
| B'MORE INVOLVED: GO GREEN FOR EARTH DAY & SPRING | | |  Home to Harbor - Clean Water Starts in Your Backyard Spring Cleanup - Saturday, April 16
Baltimore City's Spring Cleanup - "Home to Harbor - Clean Water Starts in Your Backyard" - will take place on Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's theme continues to emphasize the connection between litter and debris around the house and in the neighborhood and the cleanliness and health of the City's streams and harbor. Join your neighbors and choose a location that needs a special cleanup. Containers will be available on a first call basis, but those without a container can also participate by bagging and stacking debris at a designated location so that it can be picked up on Monday, April 18. Community representatives should call 311 to register. www.baltimorecity.gov Annapolis GreenScape - Saturday, April 16  GreenScape is a City of Annapolis and community partnership investment of beautification, clean-up, and planting in public spaces throughout Annapolis. GreenScape was founded through the efforts of former Mayor Ellen Moyer and the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Advisory Board. Over the past 19 years, hundreds of projects have been initiated and adopted by individuals, community groups and neighborhood associations. The 20th anniversary of GreenScape will be held on Saturday, April 16.
